On Making Money - Part II

September 19th, 2023

In Part I I realize money isn’t what’s most important and may not be very important to you at all. Nonetheless, financial success in career and business typically are high priorities. Thus began my focus on making more money.
Just about everyone I’ve ever gotten to know is in their own way, much more than they realize. I know what that looks like. For about the first 30 years of my career, I was an “in my own way gold medalist”! Here’s the thing, if you can be at X level of success, including the financial results of business and career. If you are at X now, where will you go once you take the ankle weights off?
Next, in this Part II we turn to: What should you do now?

Step 1 – Commit – You must first decide. It’s not about how to. You’ll figure that out. You have to want, really want, the new scenario. You must commit to creating it.
Big change comes from big commitment. You must decide and commit to creating whatever it is. Burn the ships level of commitment.
Step 2 – The New Me – Right behind that, I’d start looking for that better version of myself. Believe me, I’m looking every day! I know that someone truly committed to their own growth will continue to reach higher and higher levels. “The work” is working on you first.
Trying to convey this in a couple of written pages really falls down. Words don’t teach. Experience teaches. I’ve seen plenty of people, already financially successful, start talking about the “new me”. They’d been the "old me" for some decades and now they’re becoming the new me. The new me creates more with a whole lot less stress and strain.
Step 3 – Stay Open – Maybe this isn’t technically a step, but the point remains critical. Let’s assume you intend to somehow transform yourself.
The old you isn’t bad, it’s just that the new you is so much more powerful. You’ll believe me when you start to see it. The point is, you’ve got to stay radically open and curious. You must commit to creating internal change. Within that, you must also commit to discovering how to create internal change.
Step 4 – Hire a Coach - I’m saying that straight out. I know what happens when I coach someone. I also know it’s almost impossible to get to that next level on your own. Look at it this way. You’ve gotten to wherever you are now. That took everything you have. It will require something more to go to that higher level of personal and financial success.
I like something here I read recently: I didn’t come this far to only come this far.
I was working with a coach ten years ago who suggested I become a coach in the first place. I’m working with another coach now, who has taken me and my practice to a whole new level. In the years in between, I’ve engaged other coaches, one on one and in group programs. I invest in myself and my business, and I expect and get a return.
I say again that it’s almost impossible to do this on your own. Small tweaking, sure you can do that. But this inner work and the new outcomes you can create, those require a high level of skill and focus. That doesn’t need to be me, and I’d be happy to refer you to someone.
The smartest thing you could do is hire a really strong coach to help you get from wherever you are to where you want to go.
Step 5 – If you work with a coach, this step is important. If you don’t work with a coach, it’s all you have. Step 5 is acquiring new knowledge through reading, watching, and listening to the materials available to you. And lots of practice. If you are going it alone, you’ll need to be incredibly diligent.
On Change - Of course, trying to go it alone is why people say change is hard. It’s why people don’t blow through their own ceilings. Instead, they just keep trying to create from underneath them. The coaching I do is about creating something far beyond whatever you have now. That may be more money, or it may be worrying and stressing less. Probably all the above.
Creating more requires change. Period. People think change is hard because they have no system for change. Whatever you are getting now is perfect for the system you’ve created so far. If you want something more than that, you have to create a new system. That’s not hard, but you must know how to create change.

An invitation – I’m grateful to be able to share knowledge and perspective that may help someone. Approximately 1,000 people open these emails we’re sending each month. Some of them reach back to me, and I invite you to as well.
Let me know what you’d like to create. What you’d like more of, or less of. What would help you? I’ll promise you this. You’ll get a prompt response. I’ll share my thoughts, send you something to read, watch or listen to, or introduce you to someone. I’ll do whatever I can to serve you in whatever way I can.
As I reflect on myself - I guess I am always hustling. I’m relaxed, passionate, and relentless all at the same time. But I’m not hustling business. I only work with about 12 clients at a time and my client calendar stays more or less full. I am passionate about helping clients and others move quickly from wherever they are to where it is they want to go. It’s exciting for me to help you remember how to dream big. And, how it’s really not that hard if you’ll stop making it hard!
Perhaps that’s why my client calendar stays full! I am grateful to you for reading what I send!
